He came with Doctors for you team to serve flood affected people in Bihar from all the way Mumbai to Suapul. He was even very instrumental in organizing this trip. That itself shows his keenness towards serving the common man and society ...do I need to say anything more about him...

In rather a tragic incident on 21st September 2008, he was struck by lighting in kataiya village in Suapul district where he was camping to provide medical relief to the flood victims.

पहली बरसी पर डॉक्टर पाटिल को भावभिनी श्रद्धांजलि...

on this occasion I am putting here a brief write up about Dr. Patil in his own words:

Courtesy: http://www.doctorsforyou.org

I was born on 12/9/84 at Saturkhe village in Tal. Nandurbar which is now a district. Saturkhe is my mother’s hometown. My dad’s hometown is just 2 km. away from Saturkhe but it is in Dhule district.

We are a family of four; Mom, dad, younger sister Monika & myself.

When I was 3 months old my paternal grandfather ended his journey on this earth. I have no memories of him. Our family shifted to Lonkheda, Tal. Shahada, Dist. Nandurbar where my dad worked in a textile mill. We lived in a very small house located along river Gomati. My sister Monica was born here . My mom says that I was very quite baby & gave no troubles to her or anybody; whereas my sister troubled her in every possible way.

There was a Balwadi in Lonkheda where I went for few months. My grandma used to accompany me. After that I went to another school for few months. I don’t remember name of those schools b’coz I was just a kid then. We then shifted to Dist. Buldhana, at Sakharkheda village as my father changed his job.

We lived in company quarters. School at this place was about 4-5 km away from home with dense jungle & big nallah interrupting the way. Hence mom & dad did not send me to school. As a result I missed school for around two years. I just used to play whole day with friends.

Thereafter we shifted to Dist. Yavatmal, Tal. Pusad, at Babasaheb Naik Textile Mill where my father worked. We lived in company colony which was again about 4 km away from nearest village Pimpalgaon where the school was located. But now I was older about 6 years of age & I wanted to go to school. There were many many children of my age as well as older than me, but they seldom went to school. Pimpalgaon had a primary school. There was jungle spanning around 1 km along the way to school. I was scared of jungle; hence I used to run the distance through jungle. I never missed school. In school, I had many friends like Vitthal, Mahesh & others. Since other students never studied & I did b’coz of my mother’s insistence; teacher liked me very much. I liked Dubey Sir very much. We had Pujari Sir who was partially deaf & this used to create quite a few jokes.

Since I stood second in class & teachers liked me very much they asked my dad to allow me to appear for combined exam of second & third standard, so that one year would be saved. In this manner I jumped from second to fourth standard bypassing third.

My joy, however, was short-lived as my dad was again transferred; now to Dist.Nagpur Tal. Saoner in Perfect Spinners Ltd. at Khurajgaon. This place was different from previous places as it was bigger & more modern. School was also bigger. It was however difficult for me to adjust here. My knowledge was woefully inadequate as compared to other students. I was unable to perform calculations as they were not taught to us in my previous school. My teachers Ghate madam & Pawaskar sir told this to my dad & asked him to enroll me in Std. 3 instead of Std. 4. But my dad refused it. He asked them to grant him a period of seven days after which they could test me along with their top five students. If I did not top the test he would enroll me in directly in Std. 1! I was standing there when this discussion occurred. I felt embarrassed that I was reason for my dad’s anguish. Next seven days, my dad taught me math in every possible way he could. If I made mistakes he did beat me. I never stopped crying for those 7 days. But I also learned most during that period. After 7 days teachers did notice change in me & decided not to take any test.

My dad was overjoyed & told me that I had potential & should not consider myself lesser than others in class. I understood what he said & begin believing in myself. Soon I became favourite of Ghate madam. If I missed school any day, she visited my house to see if I was sick. After 6 months we shifted to Company Quarters. Here I learned newer games like carrom, chess, badminton, cricket etc.I also learned to speak English. I made many friends here like Amit, Mantu, Saurabh, Jagan, Dadu. We played together which resulted in many fights among us. But afterwards we made up with each other. For std. 5 I was admitted in Bhalerao High School. Here I appeared for Hindi Dnyan Prabodhini Exam which I passed with distinction. I was very good in English subject, hence my teachers advised my dad to enroll me in an English medium school. In this way I was admitted in St.John’s High School. There I studied till Std 8. Initially it was difficult to handle but slowly & steadily I made progress. Soon I was very much comfortable with all subjects in English. My favourite teacher was Dongare madam as she was very caring & patient.

My dad was again transferred to Dhule, our native district. He now worked in Jawahar textile Mill. I was admitted in N.S.B. Day School. Surana sir was our Principal & he was everybody’s favourite teacher including me. I thought I would come in merit list in Std. 10 Board exams. However my dream was shattered. I missed merit list by whisker. I, however, more than made up for it by acquiring 15 th rank in merit list of H.S.C. Board exams as well as standing 1 st in MH-CET in Dhule district

My dad was again transferred to Dhule, our native district. I, however, more than made up for it by acquiring 15 th rank in merit list of H.S.C. Board exams as well as standing 1 st in MH-CET in Dhule district I wanted to pursue engineering but on insistence of my parents I was forced to take admission for MBBS in BJMC, Pune. I regretted my decision for a long time thereafter though I really enjoyed myself. The regret part was due to long duration & hectic schedule of medical education while fun part was due to newer friends, complete freedom for first time, hostel life etc.

I passed final MBBS exam with 1 st class. I went to Dhule for internship. I enjoyed it there though I had to work very hard.

I joined as Medical Officer at Kalambhir PHC. I worked for 6 months. Unlike my other colleagues I did like the job of a Medical Officer. I appeared for PG entrance & joined Seth G. S. M. C. to pursue post-graduation in Community Medicine.

My strengths, I feel lie in my calm & adaptable nature. I am always full of ideas. My greatest weakness is however my laziness.

I aim to join WHO or UNICEF after I finish my studies. I prefer to work in rural areas. I dream to do some useful & worthwhile work in my native districts Dhule & Nandurbar.

My hobbies include reading novels, trekking, rock-climbing, listening to music & traveling.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-904635117267956867.post-12190110686298529572008-12-04T05:50:00.000-08:002008-12-04T06:34:39.042-08:00Help needed for setting up Hospital at Sonbarsa
Sorry to inform you that so far no hospital has been inaugurated on Dr. Patil's name at Sonbarsa. Sri Umashankar jee and his wife have not yet come out of the tragic death of their son. I had no words to console them...

Umashankar jee wants that Bihar government should make some monuments of Dr. Patil, so that people can remember him forever. I promised him that we'(i.e.Common Bihari") will never forget this great sacrifice of Dr. Patil..In fact we'll celebrate death anniversary (punyathithi) of Dr. Patil every year, who gave a new meaning to sacrifice and service to the needy...

Sri Umashankar jee is working with "Jawahar Cotton Mill, Dhule" as maintenance supervisor. He said that

Bhagwan sabko unke bete ke jaisa beta de par itni jaldi unse chhin na le, agar thoda kam achchha bhi rahega to thik hai par saath mein rahe

Bete ki akal mrityu ne dono(Umasahnakr ji aur unki patni) ko tod kar rakh diya hai.....

12th September was birthday of Dr. Chandrakant Patil. Prakash Jha and Nana Patekar donated a cheque of Rs 11 lakh as compensation.

Sri Umasahnakr jee will retire after 5 years. Dr. Patil's sister is studying in B.Sc.(3rd year).

Same day I came back to Gandhinagar, with a promise to visit them in near future. One thing is sure that we can't bring back Dr. Chandrakant Patil but our small effort can bring smile to his parents We have to take care of them as our own parents or relatives...
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-904635117267956867.post-87627519785979372462008-10-01T21:30:00.000-07:002008-10-01T21:32:21.674-07:00Dr. Chandrakant Patil worked selflessely for poor flood victims of BiharDear All,
This campaign is very different from any campaign we have done earlier.
Please think below on following points and then decide.
- A young doctor from Maharastra, age around 25 years, decided to visit Bihar so that he can help flood victims.
-Inspite of some resistence he decided to go to Bihar.
- He worked in Bihar selflessely and won hearts of people with his down to earth personality.
- One fateful day he lost his life leaving many people shocked.
- After Dr Patil's demise there was no immediate relief Instead we heard something totally irrational from Gov.Officials.
- Days back we came to know that our Dy CM gave 10lakh to Dr Patil's family and also spoke to father of Dr Chandrakant Patil.
This is surely a great move. We must appreciate our Dy CM.
Now as a common Bihari what are our responsibilites towards Dr Patil's family.

Are we not aware of the regional divide between Maharastra and Bihar? We showed our anger by attacking/arguing everyone on blogs, comments section of news article, orkut, forwarded the news which supported our point of view.

Is this not a time to act and show our complete support to a family of great son. There was Dr Patil who went against the will of many people, knowing completely that he many have to face some unpleasent situation when people in Bihar would come to know about his origin.
Emotion of Serving the poor people overtook anyother emotions.

Dr Patil as common Maharatrian came to Bihar and lost his life. Common Biharis cannot bring Dr Patil back but they can certainly show their soliderity towards Dr Patil's family. This small gesture will be an attempt from Common Biharis to salute the family of Dr Patil who lost their only son. If we do not act now we will make mockey of ourselves.
We are targetting (atleast) 1 lakh help from "common Biharis" for this cause.
Feel free to share your views.
-AshokAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-904635117267956867.post-76904446498377995952008-10-01T05:39:00.001-07:002008-10-01T05:44:54.453-07:00Supreme sacrifice of Dr. Chandrakant Patil
Dr Chandrakant Patil had come all the way from Mumbai to the Kosi region of Bihar to serve the flood ravaged people. While serving thehumanity, he was struck by lightning and lost his life. Dr Patil comes from rather humble background. His father is a mill worker andhis mother is a house wife. His younger sister is a student. His family had great hopes from him as he was effectively the sole bread winner for them. His supreme sacrifice is especially laudable since it has come at a time of increased regional chauvinism. It is like a balm to the divisiveness that we see all around us. For this very reason, the Bihar government has nothing but condolences to offer to the bereaved family of Dr Chandrakant Patil, a postgraduate student of King Edward Medical College, Mumbai, who was killed by lightning near Supaul on Sunday .
Dr Patil, who reached here on September 18, had fought with his seniors to allow him to work as a volunteer in the flood-hit districts of Bihar and was doing yeoman’s service at filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Kataiya relief camp in Supaul till death snatched him away .

While condolence messages, including that of State Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, kept pouring in to Hindustan Times office, the Bihar government on Tuesday said there was no provision either in the CRF or the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) to pay compensation to the families of those killed by lightning.

Citing the relevant clause under the CRF, Additional Commissioner, Disaster Management Department, Pratyaya Amrit said, “The CRF shall be used only for meeting the expenditure for providing immediate relief to the victims of cyclone, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami, hailstorm, landslide, avalanche, cloudburst and pest attack.” ruchirkumar@hindustantimes.com

-------
If the above news is valid ( we still cannot believe this lame excuse by Gov of Bihar) then this is really shocking. We are sure that Bihar Gov will look into this matter and do something for the family to Dr Chandrakant Patil. We Biharis will not digest such lame excues made by officials from Patna.Ashokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14227449688022058912noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-904635117267956867.post-23284648646718831012008-09-25T22:09:00.000-07:002008-09-25T22:15:16.312-07:00Lightening Kills Dr Chandrakant Patil in Saupal. This disturbing news came from Patna.
A very dedicated and noble person lost his life while he was in Saupal (Bihar) serving the flood victims.

News item which appeared on Patnadaily.com
------------

Lightning Kills Maharashtra Doctor at Relief Camp in Supaul

In a rather tragic, though freak, accident, 25-year old doctor from Maharashtra Dr. Chandrakant Patil died on Sunday night when he was struck by lightning in Kataiya village in Supaul district where he was camping to provide medical relief to the flood victims.

Patil, a native of Dhule in Maharashtra, came to Bihar on September 18 as part of a 40-doctor team who volunteered to serve in Bihar's flood-hit districts at the behest of prominent film-maker Prakash Jha.

On Sunday night at around 10:30 pm, he, along with some of his colleagues, were relaxing in a makeshift tent when suddenly the tent was hit by lightning. While three men received non-life threatening burns, Patil was not so lucky and died on the spot.

His body was taken to a Supaul Hospital from where it was flown to the Patna Medical College Hospital where thousands of people turned up to get a last glimpse of the man who is considered a hero for his selfless act and the ultimate sacrifice he made while serving the people of Bihar.

Dr. Patil's body was later flown to Mumbai.

Bihar State Health Services Association Coordinator Dr. Ajay Kumar, in his eulogy, said that Dr. Patil deserved the highest civil honor for sacrificing his life while doing a noble work in Bihar.

"Though no amount of money could bring back Dr. Patil, I would ask the state government to provide Rs. 50 lakh to his family members in Maharashtra," Dr. Kumar said.

Dr. Patil was the only son of Umakant Patil.
